The memento mori theme as a reminder of the transience of life runs through the epochs of fine art.
This project deals with the subject quite discreetly in photographs of flowering and leafy plants.
The spectrum ranges from the first signs of withering to advanced decomposition.
Particularly in the early stages of fading, the project plays with the conventional impression
of plant photography as the domain of the idealized, the decorative, and sometimes the kitschy –
gently irritating the viewer, however, with hints of beginning decay. In other motifs, death is
already irreversibly manifest. Yet even in its demise, nature always retains its dignity.
The photographs do not judge, merely seek to find in each tableau the composition that will
accentuate the quiet harmony of the ephemeral.
